Description

A hearty and wholesome overnight breakfast casserole that you prepare the night before for a hassle-free morning meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1 package frozen hash browns (about 30 oz)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sour cream, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Grease a 9×13 baking dish and layer half of the frozen hash browns at the bottom.
  4. Add half of the browned sausage, followed by a layer of shredded cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering with the remaining hash browns, sausage, and cheese.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers, ensuring all are well-coated.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate overnight.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning. Bake covered for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until golden and set.
  10. Sprinkle with chopped green onions before serving warm.

Notes

For added flavor, try using flavored breakfast sausages or spices. Customize with veggies or different types of cheese.
