Description
A warm, hearty twist on classic sloppy joes, featuring tender ground chicken with a zesty Cajun kick.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, coleslaw
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced bell pepper and onion, and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground chicken to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until it’s no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes.
- Toast the hamburger buns in a separate skillet or toaster until golden brown.
- Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns. Add optional toppings and place the top halves of the buns on top.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Consider trying variations like diced jalapeños for extra heat.
