Description

A warm, hearty twist on classic sloppy joes, featuring tender ground chicken with a zesty Cajun kick.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, coleslaw

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced bell pepper and onion, and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground chicken to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until it’s no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns in a separate skillet or toaster until golden brown.
  6. Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns. Add optional toppings and place the top halves of the buns on top.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Consider trying variations like diced jalapeños for extra heat.
