Charming and festive meringue cookies shaped like trees, perfect for holiday gatherings and easy to make with kids.
Ingredients
- 3 large egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Green food coloring
- Red and gold sprinkles (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the sugar while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form. The mixture should look glossy.
- Blend in the vanilla extract and a few drops of green food coloring until you achieve your desired shade of green.
- Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag and pipe out tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Add red and gold sprinkles generously for decoration.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 60-90 minutes, until the meringues are firm and can be lifted off the parchment paper easily.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Meringues can last for about a week if kept dry. Freezing is an option with parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.
