Description
Freshly baked cinnamon rolls that are fluffy, sweet, and perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk (heated to 110°F)
- 2 + 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter (divided)
- 4 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus 2-4 Tbsp. as needed)
- 6 Tbsp. softened butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
- 4 Tbsp. softened butter (for brushing)
- 4 oz. softened cream cheese
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, egg, 1 Tbsp. melted butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Whisk until combined.
- Stir in 3 cups all-purpose flour using a wooden spatula, adding additional flour as needed until the dough is no longer sticky. Knead for about 3 minutes.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for about 60 minutes, until doubled in size.
- Prepare the cinnamon filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon.
- Roll the dough out into a 17 x 10 inch rectangle, spread the cinnamon filling evenly, then roll the dough up tightly and cut into 8 sections.
- Place the cinnamon rolls in a greased 9×13 inch pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Brush with melted butter and preheat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes.
- For frosting, beat together softened butter, cream cheese, and vanilla. Gradually mix in powdered sugar until smooth.
- Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls and serve.
Notes
Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
