Description

A comforting and convenient breakfast casserole made with buttery croissants, eggs, and cheese, perfect for busy mornings or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 6 croissants, torn into pieces
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar or Swiss)
  • 1/2 cup diced ham or cooked bacon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh herbs (e.g., chives or parsley)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the eggs and milk in a large mixing bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or oil.
  3. Layer the torn croissant pieces evenly along the bottom of the dish.
  4. If using, sprinkle diced ham or bacon over the croissants, followed by a layer of cheese and fresh herbs.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the layers, ensuring every piece is well soaked.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with foil and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) when ready to bake.
  8. Bake the casserole covered for about 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and set.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, replace ham or bacon with sautéed vegetables. Customize toppings with different cheeses or herbs for added flavor.
