Ingredients
- 1 pound of sausage
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups of milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 8 slices of bread, cubed
- 2 cups of shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard powder until smooth.
- In a greased baking dish, layer the cubed bread, cooked sausage, and shredded cheese.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers.
- Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight.
- The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the casserole, uncovered, for 45-55 minutes or until set and golden on top.
- Let it sit for a few minutes before slicing and garnish with green onions if desired.
Notes
Use stale bread for better absorption of the egg mixture. You can substitute sausage with turkey, bacon, or veggie options.
