Description
A traditional Italian Margherita pizza featuring fresh mozzarella, basil, and a rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup crushed tomatoes
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water; let it sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Spread crushed tomatoes evenly over the dough, then top with mozzarella slices and season with salt and pepper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and add fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
Notes
For an extra crispy crust, bake on a pre-heated pizza stone. This pizza is naturally vegetarian.
