Description

A traditional Italian Margherita pizza featuring fresh mozzarella, basil, and a rich tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water; let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  8. Spread crushed tomatoes evenly over the dough, then top with mozzarella slices and season with salt and pepper.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and add fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.

Notes

For an extra crispy crust, bake on a pre-heated pizza stone. This pizza is naturally vegetarian.
