A comforting and hearty casserole combining layers of tender potatoes, savory ground beef, and gooey cheese, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, seasoning with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook until browned.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by the cooked ground beef mixture and half of the shredded cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, and top with the remaining cheese.
- Pour the beef broth over the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.
- Allow to sit before serving.
Notes
Feel free to substitute turkey for ground beef or add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for added nutrition.
