Delightful Candy Cane Cookies infused with peppermint, perfect for the holiday season.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- Red food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the dough in half. Add the peppermint extract and red food coloring to one half, mixing until you achieve a soft pink hue.
- Roll out small amounts of each dough (the white and the red) into thin strips. Twist them together to shape them into candy canes.
- Place the formed cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between each.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool completely before serving.
Notes
Chill the dough if it’s too soft to work with, and experiment with colors for fun variations.
