Delightful Candy Cane Cookies infused with peppermint, perfect for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red food coloring


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Add the peppermint extract and red food coloring to one half, mixing until you achieve a soft pink hue.
  6. Roll out small amounts of each dough (the white and the red) into thin strips. Twist them together to shape them into candy canes.
  7. Place the formed cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between each.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool completely before serving.

Notes

Chill the dough if it’s too soft to work with, and experiment with colors for fun variations.
